About the Book

Russell Kirk (1918-1994) was one of the foremost American men of letters of the twentieth century. A prolific author of fiction and nonfiction, Kirk is best known for The Conservative Mind, which helped launch the modern conservative intellectual movement. In On America, Kirk turns his attention to the deeper question of what America is and what sustains it: not ideology or economics, but the moral imagination, inherited institutions, and the permanent things that anchor a republic.
