You might notice a few changes around here.
We’ve got a brand new logo, a sharp new theme, and a few fancy new features. The most important of them is that the threading system on our comments is vastly improved. We care a lot about what goes on down there, and the previous versions of our site simply haven’t cut it for us.
Along those lines, I’m testing out the new Facebook commenting platform. While there are some promotional advantages for us, I mostly like the fact that it eliminates anonymity. While that hasn’t been a problem, if my interview with James was any indication, it might become one quickly.
But the most significant change is clearly to our logo. When we were putting together the design for this site, I had to make a decision about whether I wanted to reflect the conversational elements of the site’s history or our dedication to advocating traditional creedal orthodoxy in compelling ways in the 21st century.
I made the decidedly unhistorical decision to emphasize the former, partly because I liked the logo, but also as a nod to those who have participated in our many discussions over the years. I am no less committed to seeking the permanent things than I ever have been–but I also want to acknowledge that the most permanent of permanent things are the people who we interact with. And that’s always what has made Mere-O a little haven of sanity.
Not to mention that I didn’t have to buy this theme because so many of you voted for us to win it from Pagelines, the designers who built it. While putting this together has taken more work and time than I would have liked, I am enormously grateful for everyone’s support and patience.
We’ll be kicking the tires for the next little bit, but I’m not expecting too many hiccups. Let us know what you like and don’t like, and what you want that we don’t currently have. And if you haven’t subscribed by RSS or followed us on Facebook yet, I’d be really grateful if you did that too.
