I went through Mere O's archives earlier this year and categorized each post. When I did, I was a little embarrassed by the numerous posts that were strictly for personal announcements. I committed to correcting that, to focusing on issues and not my own life.
But I can't resist.
If nothing else, the recent discussion on Darwinism here at Mere O underscored my urgent need for more and better education. Blogging has been nonexistent since then because I found out that I have been accepted into the Master's of Arts Program in Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. Upon receiving the news, I had mixed emotions: I had applied to a Ph.D. program and was disappointed that I was not accepted, but simultaneously excited about the opportunity before me. The Master's program is very unique in that I can take classes in any department in the University. It is very self-directed, very rigorous, and not surprisingly, very expensive.
As I write this, I sit in the living room of a friend's house in Chicago. Tomorrow, I will visit the program and continue to seek clarity in making the decision. My wife and I are both looking for God's hand in this time, both for His direction and His provision. We would ask readers of Mere Orthodoxy to pray for us as we weigh our options. We must make a decision by May 1st, and probably sooner to make the transition out of Los Angeles feasible for us. Additionally, we would ask your prayers for God's financial provision for us. The program at the University of Chicago is $40,000, and while comfortable taking out loans, we would prefer not to sink ourselves in that much debt. If any reader feels so prompted to donate to the cause, or has questions, contact me at matthew dot L dot anderson at gmail dot com.
As always, thanks for reading Mere Orthodoxy. We are working to be more excellent at blogging, and even though it is a long process and we get tired, knowing that we have readers makes it worthwhile. Soli Deo Gloria.
