There has been much written about atomization and the rise of loneliness (and surely there is much more to write), but [this essay by Andrea Mrozek](https://www.cardus.ca/comment/article/single-beds-were-made-for-one/?ref=mereorthodoxy.com) is a good summation of the problem:

> The failure of the sexual revolution for women is such that scholars now discuss [the paradox of increasing unhappiness for women](http://users.nber.org/~jwolfers/papers/WomensHappiness.pdf?ref=mereorthodoxy.com) in particular. The paradox refers to the objective reality that women’s freedoms are greater now, and yet female happiness declines. One journalist writing recently in *Oprah* [details the very lives of women falling apart](http://www.oprah.com/sp/new-midlife-crisis.html?FB=fb%5Fomag%5Fnew%5Fmidlife%5Fcrisis%5Ffeature&ref=mereorthodoxy.com). She calls a friend to ask about people to interview: “Do you know anyone having a midlife crisis I could talk to?” Her friend replies: “I’m trying to think of any woman I know who’s not.”
