The news that Dr. Barry Corey was going to be Biola's next president stirred no little controversy among Biola's interested parties. Dr. Corey was ordained by the Assemblies of God, which has at least one tenet that is contrary to Biola's doctrinal statement.
While Dr. Corey forcefully defended his adherence to the Biola doctrinal statement, there was some question as to what would happen next. That question has been answered, apparently. Buried at the bottom of this interview with the Whittier Daily News is this line:
Still, Corey said he plans to transfer his credentials to another church.
Apparently, Dr. Corey is serious enough about his disagreement with the Assemblies of God that he is giving up his ordination. That's exemplary intellectual honesty, and makes me even more confident in Biola's decision.
