URGENT: Mere Orthodoxy Needs Your Help
Dear reader,
“Are we there yet?” “When are we going to get there?” If you are a parent, you have no doubt heard this question asked repeatedly on car trips. Someone in the back seat usually asked one of these questions about 15 minutes into the trip and then asked again and again in 15-minute intervals all the way to the destination. As a father of six, I wanted so badly to say out loud what every parent is thinking on these road trips, “no one wants to get there more than I do” (primarily so I don’t have to hear that question again).
Well, we don’t mind you asking, “are we there yet?” In fact, we are glad you asked. If you read our last appeal for help, you know this question is in regard to our need to raise $100,000 in short order to replace two gifts totaling that amount which were given to us in error, and had to be returned. This sudden turn of financial position initially left Jake and myself quite discouraged and quietly despairing. At the same time, we sensed God was going to provide for this ministry and that it might in fact, turn out to be a watershed moment for Mere Orthodoxy. We immediately drew upon one of the core values that guides our work and now needed to be applied to what could have been our own “Waterloo moment”:
“We are not anxious or fearful, but hopeful and confident in the providence of God.”
And so, in faith, we reached out to you and several thousand Mere O friends to let you know the need. "Wow!" is the only word we can use. We have been so encouraged and buoyed by the response of our readers and supporters. In less than two weeks, more than 100 faithful partners have given $46,790! So, to answer the question, “are we there yet?”, the answer is not yet, but we are well on our way, in fact, we are about halfway to our goal of $100,000!
If you are one of those who has already generously contributed to this effort, thank you! Your immediate response and sacrificial contributions have been helpful, gratifying, and very encouraging. We sense that many of you have a deep connection to Mere Orthodoxy and are passionate about our vision of bringing Christian renewal by calling our audience to “reflection, patience, and simple faithfulness, not rage, recklessness, and compromise.” This we attempt to do, day in and day out, through thoughtful, non-anxious, constructive thinking and writing that speaks into all of the issues confronting the Church and Western Civilization.
If you have not yet contributed to this effort, we would greatly appreciate a contribution of any size. One of our goals is to expand our donor base, so we would love to have several hundred readers become new supporters of this work at $25, $50, or $100. Some of you will be able to make a larger gift of $500 or $1000. Your investment, no matter the amount, will not only help us restore what was lost but will help ensure that this media ministry continues and flourishes in the decades to come.
As an aside, we are not funded by a couple of mega donors or foundations, but instead depend on hundreds of small donations from readers like you to carry on this ministry. So please prayerfully consider what you can do to help establish Mere Orthodoxy as a robust and enduring voice for Christian renewal in our cultural moment.
We would love to report back to you in another two weeks that we have surpassed the critical need of $100,000 and are moving beyond to expand both the depth and breadth of our work. So, if you haven’t contributed yet, please click the link below to give now:
