With school starting up again, there’s a new threat to teachers and professors: YouTube. Those pesky cell phones will once again incriminate the crazy, the boring, and the downright bad professors. Like ratemyprofessors.com, the truth will eventually win out–professors who are enaging, who know their content, and who have enough humility to laugh at themselves with the rest of the world will thrive. The real question, though, is who will watch when they could be watching this?
This article from the Los Angeles Times on Calvary Chapel founder Chuck Smith’s relationship with his son is an interesting portrayal of what seems like a difficult family dynamic. It is an article without any heroes for me: Chuck Smith, Jr. has embraced liberal theology while Chuck Smith, Sr. and his associates seem to be callous conservatives. Some of the quotations from Smith’s associates are painful. (HT: TheChristianMind)
Finally, I reviewed I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist several months ago for Active Christian Media. I recommended it primarily for Christians, but it obviously struck a chord with at least one non-Christian. I find it immensely interesting that the part I didn’t like–namely Turek’s responses to problems like the problem of evil–were part of what moved Jimmy to convert. It was in the midst of that exact problem that Jimmy read I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist. (HT: Between Two Worlds)
