Rejoice, frail sons of Adam’s blood
For God, the Just and True
Is ever seeking wretched souls
In mercy, to renew
For I my body bound in swaths
Of filth from hope misplaced
Lay reeking in the dark of sin
Despairing of His grace

There in the pit with blistered hands
From laboring to hide
In umbrous clefts of heaping guilt
Exhausted by my pride
His piercing light broke through the depths
My shame-cast shadows waned
And all that I had buried there
Lay gruesome and profane

Then I, the sin-sick leper, cried
“O Lord, I am unclean!”
Keen of ear He heard and spoke
“Arise, you are set free!
For by the cross of Christ my Son
Your sins were crucified
And by His righteousness, your hope
You have been justified!”

So sing, you ransomed sons of men
The God who stoops to save
In endless mercy called you forth
From your deserved grave
Now lift up hands that once were drenched
With blood from murderous deeds
And shout for joy in all the earth
For you have been redeemed!
